Book Series - Wicked Witches of the Midwest Mystery
The Wicked Witches of the Midwest Mysteries is a series of cozy/paranormal mystery novels and stories by Amanda M. Lee. The protagonist of the series is Bay Winchester , a newspaper editor who descends from witches living in Hemlock Cove.
Amanda M. Lee started her Wicked Witches of the Midwest Mysteries series in 2012 with the novel Any Witch Way You Can. The series is currently ongoing.
The Winchester witches have a knack for finding trouble. In this series, you can enjoy Hemlock Cove’s favorite family of witches as they embark on a trio of fabulous fantasies that take them to several different worlds that stretch the limits of their imaginations and magical abilities.
In all the books, the plot is about mysteries and murders. In the first book, you already start to fall in love with this family, whose lineage only has opinionated, mouthy, and loud women who love to mess with each other.
My favorite is Aunt Tillie. Reading the author’s site, she said that Aunt Tillie is a mixture of a few people. She based her on her great-aunt’s looks (and one or two traits) and then gave her a few of her great-grandmother’s personality ticks, and then she removed her filter, and Aunt Tillie came to fruition.
The Wicked Witches of the Midwest are divided into three parts:
1. The regular mysteries: Two mysteries are published each year. They generally hit about six months apart.
2. The short mysteries: She writes five 27,000-word short mysteries from the point of view of different characters. Some of these are set in the present, and some are set in the past.
3. The fantasies: The fantasies are about 60,000 words (so a short novel), and they wrap up with the sixth entry, Close Encounters of the Witchy Kind.
